The Houston Rockets kicked off their playoff run in fine fashion as they blew past the Thunder by 118-87 in Game 1 on Sunday. James Harden dominated the game with 37 points and nine assists while shooting 13 of 28 from the floor. Patrick Beverley added 21 points with 10 rebounds, Nene Hilario chipped in with 15 points while Clint Capela had 14 points as the Rockets shot 49 percent from the field and 10 of 33 from the three-point line. Eric Gordon scored just eight points while Ryan Anderson and Trevor Ariza had just four points each, but their usual production wasn’t required as the Rockets dominated the second half by 59-33 on the back of their defense.
Meanwhile, the Oklahoma City Thunder must have been feeling pretty good in the first half of Game 1 but they couldn’t find their offense in the second half, especially in the fourth quarter where they were outscored by 29-13. Russell Westbrook scored 22 points with 11 rebounds and seven assists but he just never found his usual rhythm as he shot just six of 23 from the field. Andre Roberson added 18 points while Jerami Grant chipped in with 10 points off the bench, but no other Thunder player finished in double figures as they shot just 37 percent from the field and nine of 29 from the three-point line as a team. It’s going to take a team effort to level the series in Game 2 but I’m looking specifically at Victor Oladipo to make an impact after he finished with just six points on one of 12 shooting in Game 1.

Looking at the betting trends, the Thunder are 4-2 ATS in their last six road games and 5-3 ATS in their last eight Conference Quarterfinals games. Meanwhile, the Rockets are 1-4 ATS in their last five home games, 2-4 ATS in their last six Conference Quarterfinals games and 1-9 ATS in their last 10 games overall.
Head to head, the Thunder are 1-6 ATS in the last seven meetings in Houston and 1-10 ATS in the last 11 meetings overall. The road team is 5-3 ATS in the last eight meetings and the underdog is 6-3 ATS in the last nine meetings.
The Thunder just had no answer against the Rockets in that second half of Game 1 and I'm expecting more of the same unless Westbrook can rack up another triple-double. I don't see that happening though as I think the Rockets' scoring depth will once again be too much for the Thunder.
