MATCH PREVIEW
MAIN PREDICTION: HOME WIN

Spartak Moscow’s 4-1 dismantling of close rivals FK Krasnodar last weekend away from home was emphatic. They have by far the longest unbeaten run in the league – all other sides have lost at least once in the last six rounds – and only Zenit St Petersburg have scored more home goals during that time. Spartak will also have an extra two days to rest ahead of the Zenit fixture than their visitors after European commitments as they drew 1-1 against Maribor in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Zenit St Petersburg finally managed to snap out of their relatively dreadful winless in style, hammering Tosno 5-0 at home last weekend in the league and following that result up with another 2-1 win against Vardar Skopje in the Europa League on Thursday. They have the only remaining unbeaten away record in the top flight; in fact, they haven’t lost for 13 away games, but the last side to beat them was Spartak themselves in April. The team have only conceded three goals on their travels this season, easily the tightest defensive record in the league.
Zenit will be tough opponents, but nevertheless, I expect Spartak’s home support to edge them over the line for a home win.

SECOND PREDICTION: FIRST TEAM TO SCORE – SPARTAK MOSCOW

Spartak Moscow have been leading at the break more than any other side, while at home they have only conceded one first-half goal. They have opened the scoring in nine of their last 11 home matches in league action. Zenit St Petersburg have only managed to be leading at half time twice away from home all season and have not taken the lead first in five of their last seven away games. Expect Spartak to score first.

HEAD TO HEAD
Spartak Moscow are unbeaten in the last four home encounters, while there have been 66 goals in the last 15 meetings.
