The 2014 World Cup draw on Friday has whetted the appetite for next summer's showpiece tournament in Brazil.

-

It no longer feels that far away – and, in just six months' time, we'll all be swamped by World Cup fever.

Who will be crowned World champions in Brazil? Will it be the host nation, Spain, Argentina or Germany? Who will be the surprise package? Can England get out of their tough-looking group?

All of these questions will be answered in due course – as too, will the Golden Boot award question.

Fortunately for us, though, the good guys at Opta have released their statistical predictions for who they believe are the most likely to win finish as the tournament's top scorer.

There are a few surprises in there – so have your say in the comments' section, whether you believe the list will prove to be accurate or not.

-

10. Mesut Ozil | Germany

-

Can Ozil spring a surprise in Brazil?

-

Chances of being top scorer: Between 2-3%

Rather surprisingly, it's Mesut Ozil who is considered by Opta to be the most likely German player to win the 2014 Golden Boot award.

The 25-year-old has netted 17 goals for Germany – but it's still difficult to imagine him scoring more goals than the rest of the players on this list.

-

9. Gonzalo Higuain | Argentina

-

nowgoal.com: football livescore

Higuain is a natural goalscorer

-

Chances of being top scorer: Between 3-4%

The first of three Argentinian strikers to make this list, Gonzalo Higuain is considered the least likely of the trio to win the Golden Boot award. But he's still one of the 10 most likely players to win the prestigious individual accolade.

Higuain could be full of confidence if he continues score goals on a consistent basis for Napoli – so, who knows?

-

8. Sergio Aguero | Argentina

-

nowgoal.com: football livescore

Aguero is currently scoring goals for fun

-

Chances of being top scorer: Between 3-4%

Sergio Aguero is currently scoring goals for fun with Manchester City and, if he can translate his excellent form onto the international stage during the 2014 World Cup finals, he'll stand a chance of finishing as the competition's top scorer.

7. Robin van Persie | Netherlands

-

nowgoal.com: football livescore

Van Persie is the Oranje's record goalscorer

-

Chances of being top scorer: Between 3-4%

Netherlands will be out to avenge their 2010 World Cup final defeat next summer – and Robin van Persie will be crucial to their hopes in Brazil.

The Manchester United striker is on course for a disappointing season with the Red Devils, which could make him doubly determined to help the Oranje lift the World Cup for the first time in their history.

 -

6. Fred | Brazil

-

nowgoal.com: football livescore

Fred won the Silver Boot at the Confederations Cup

-

Chances of being top scorer: Between 4-5%

Next on the list is Brazil striker Fred, who Opta believe will lead the line for the 2014 World Cup hosts next summer.

The 30-year-old won the Silver Shoe at the end of this summer's Confederations Cup. Can he go one better next year?

-

 5. Luis Suarez | Uruguay

-

nowgoal.com: football livescore

Suarez is expected to score more than Cavani

-

Chances of being top scorer: Between 4-5%

On current form, Luis Suarez could well be the world's best striker.

The Uruguayan will be one of two key players for his country next summer, alongside Edinson Cavani, but Opta have predicted that Suarez is more likely to claim the Golden Boot award.

He'll probably score a hat-trick against England in the group stages, after all.

-

 4. Cristiano Ronaldo | Portugal

-

nowgoal.com: football livescore

Portugal will have their hopes pinned on this man

-

Chances of being top scorer: Between 6-7%

Cristiano Ronaldo has been unstoppable in 2013, but can he carry that blistering form over into 2014?

That remains to be seen, but the Portugal captain almost single-handedly dragged his country to the 2014 World Cup finals, so you can be sure that he'll be determined to win the competition.

And if he can't win the main prize, well, then he would obviously settle for the Golden Boot.

-

3. Radamel Falcao | Colombia

-

nowgoal.com: football livescore

Falcao is one of the world's best No. 9s

-

Chances of being top scorer: Between 6-7%

We all know that Radamel Falcao is one of the world's most prolific strikers, but can he do the business for Colombia at next summer's World Cup finals?

The AS Monaco star could cause some damage against Greece, Ivory Coast and Japan in the group stages.

-

 2. Lionel Messi | Argentina

-

nowgoal.com: football livescore

Messi will be desperate to win the World Cup

-

Chances of being top scorer: Between 12-13%

Will this be the World Cup in which Lionel Messi cements his status as the greatest player of all time?

Well, in order for that to happen, the Barcelona superstar will need to inspire Argentina to glory in neighbouring Brazil.

He's capable of doing just that – but will he step up for his country when it matters most? Opta think he can.

-

 1. Neymar | Brazil

-

nowgoal.com: football livescore

Neymar is Opta's pick for the 2014 Golden Boot

-

Chances of being top scorer: 13.6%

Neymar hasn't turned 22 yet, but he has already scored 27 goals for his country.

With Brazil on home soil, the man who picked up the Golden Ball award as this summer's Confederations Cup is the most likely player to win the 2014 World Cup Golden Boot.
